World of Warcraft Battle for Azeroth is All About Girl Power

Regardless of which Warbringers' episode was your favorite, there's one thing that's certain: Battle for Azeroth is about powerful women.

World of Warcraft's in-game lore has focused primarily on Azeroth's kings and male leaders with female protagonists being side quests and intermissions. But Legion began focusing more on its female leaders. From the Loa telling Warchief Vol'jin to choose Sylvanas "The Banshee Queen" Windrunner as his predecessor to her sister Alleria Windrunner harnessing The Void, Legion set the stage for Azeroth's female leaders to be at the forefront.

Lady Jaina Proudmoore, Lord Admiral

Long has she felt the sting of betrayal at the hands of The Horde. As the leader of the Kirin Tor, Jaina wanted peace between Horde and Alliance. Though she tried to remain neutral, she tried to broker peace between Horde and Alliance in order to defeat The Burning Legion. But Horde's alliances of convenience was strained and through betraying each other, betrayed Jaina's and The Alliance's trust for peace.

Jaina was noticeably absent from Legion after helping King Varian Wrynn and Genn Greymane at Broken Shore. But, with the Alliance being crippled with Varian's death and with the Kirin Tor welcoming Horde into Dalaran again, Jaina felt she needed to be alone

Sylvanas Windrunner, Warchief

World of Warcraft players are understandably angry at how the burning of The World Tree played out. The Alliance players are pissed at Sylvanas because of what she did and Horde players are saying how ashamed they are that she is their Warchief. People who have never liked Sylvanas feel justified in their hatred of her.

Sylvanas seems to be the go-to, obvious evil. Granted, faction tensions have always been high and within The Horde, people have never trusted Sylvanas. But her ruthlessness and cunning may prove to be what the Horde has been missing for a very long time. Horde respects and follows strength. But Horde also places high regard on being honorable.

Also there's something brewing between with the Old Gods manipulating Light and Shadow. As we know, the living are easily corrupted and BellularGaming has a very credible theory as to how this can all play out.

Queen Azshara, Ruler of Nazjatar

Queen Azshara, Ruler of Nazjatar

Azshara is a baaaad bitch! She straight up told the Old God N'Zoth that she will not serve him; she will be queen. She heard the whispers--it's what the Old Gods love to do to the living. N'Zoth had been watching her for 1,000 years.

BellularGaming points out in a video that, before N'Zoth transforms Azshara into a Naga, she was more powerful than Mannoroth, which is pretty powerful. Will Azshara try to exert her own agenda or will she be forced to carry out N'Zoth's will? Azshara wants power and to be adored, which is why she was flattered, by her advisor Xavius, to use the Well of Eternity to "cleanse the world" and make the world as she would have it. And in using the Well of Eternity, she draws the attention of Sargeras.

There's so much happening in Battle for Azeroth that's being spearheaded by women. That's not to say the men of Azeroth have been rendered useless. That's not what this is about. It's about seeing women leaders, good or bad, at the helm, driving the storylines and plots. And there's so much to look forward to. Will Azshara's ambition lead her align herself with the Zandalari and Bwonsamdi and would the uncorruptable, Dark Lady have anything to do with that?

What are you most looking forward to seeing unfold during Battle for Azeroth?
